Domaine Barmès Buecher is a family owned domaine located in the town of Wettolsheim in France’s Alsace wine growing region. The domaine was founded in 1985, and today the domaine is run by Geneviève Barmès. Geneviève, along with her grown children Sophie and Maxime, tend to just over 16 hectares of vines which extend over the four communes of Wettolsheim, Wintzenheim, Turckheim and Eguisheim.
Approximately 2 of these 16 hectares are devoted to Grand Cru sites. The varieties planted include: Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Muscat, Sylvaner Pinot Blanc, Pinot Auxerrois and Chardonnay. All new plantings are done via selection massale. Since 1998, all of the vines have been farmed according to biodynamic principles. This process, along with careful attention to yields, quality of fruit, and minimal intervention in the cellar result in a range of wines that truly transmit the specific terroirs from which they are grown.

Tasting Notes | The 2021 Sylvaner Rosenberg is made from old vines, planted in 1969/1970, so just over 50 years old. The nose has a faint hint of melted butter and hazelnut. The small harvest meant that it needed to go into used barrique, because there was not enough to fill a foudre. The result is very creamy and smooth, on a slender body, with much lemon freshness. |
Vinification | Long fermentation, natural yeast. Aged 11 month in demi-muids on total lees. |
