100% Pinot Noir from Woodlands Vineyard
Wine Maker’s Note
Our Reserve de la Cave wines are produced from the centre of our original south-facing slope of the Woodlands Vineyard, planted between 1975 and 1976.
Our crop of Pinot Noir in 2013 was around our long term average of 2 tonnes per acre, enabling us to produce 1050 bottles.
This wine was hand picked and sorted by the Watson family and friends before being crushed and fermented in a small open fermenter. After fermentation this wine was racked into new and one year old French oak barrels where it remained for 11 months without being racked.
This wine shows lifted primary fruit characters of strawberry and red berry fruits on the nose. The palate mirrors the nose as well as combining with raspberry, briar patch, and cola bean notes. The texture is fine and supple, finishing with fine acidity.
As our Pinot Noir is not filtered it may develop some sediment in bottle, and will be best enjoyed if decanted. We recommend opening this wine between 2018 and 2025.
