Pinot Noir is a very selective grape. It does not like the heat, but does like the sun. It likes warm days but more importantly likes cold nights. It likes to be on well drained soils, not flat landscapes. It is so demanding that only a few Australian regions can aspire to produce a Pinot Noir of any pedigree. The Yarra Valley has attained that status over the decades and we have set out to support that reputation with our attention to detail and definitive vineyard home site.
This is a blend from three distinct clones of Pinot Noir. The MV6 gives a broader, dry fruit profile, while the D4V2 adds minerality and structure. The 777 brings well rounded, elegant raspberry and cherry flavours with fine length. The fruit is cold soaked and fermented naturally in barrel to add savoury complexity.
“A small Yarra Valley producer, but one whose reputation is growing rapidly as a fine maker, particularly of Pinot Noir. The 2015 Hexham Vineyard Pinot Noir is genuinely beautiful this year. More dense than ‘others we have seen’, but as quality centred. It is effortlessly structured and wraps around a gorgeous, complex core of dark fruit. Drink some of these now, but try and commit some to the cellar… if you can” – Wine Emporium.
