In 1923, Chuo Budoshu was established in Katsunuma the birthplace of the wine industry. Our brand name is t Winery. We are making efforts to make good quality wine while taking into account the climate and the soils as well as using modern techniques. In spring 1990, we started Vertical Shoot Positioning of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. After that we increased the vineyard with the viticulture of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Pinot Noir and we placed the Akeno vineyard in 2002. Now our total vineyard holdings are 14ha. I reference to Koshu, the Japanese traditional variety, the grapes are grown in a mountainous district, which increases the convcentration of flavour. The soils, climate and viticultural efforts all help to produce highly concentrated grapes and therefore high quality wines.Koshu ”” The original ‘Koshu grapes’ were brought from Caucasus through the Silk Road and spread in Japan with Buddhism. They took root in Katsunuma, where the natural environment is suitable for grape growing. It is said that viticulture of ‘Koshu grapes’ began more than 1280 years ago. With its long history, ‘Koshu grapes’ reflect the nature and culture of Katsunuma and also Japan. We could say that only the wines made from ‘Koshu grapes’ are true original Japanese wines.
