Château de la Roche Touraine-Azay-le-Rideau, Loire Valley

7

This old manor house from the 16th and 17th centuries is located on a vineyard  bordered by the forest of Chinon and
the valleys of the Loire and Indre.
The field extends, in polyculture (fruit trees, cattle, wheat) on a surface of 40 hectares. 6 hectares of vines aged from 10 to 80 years and classified in  AOC Touraine Azay-le-Rideau.                               The mildness of the climate, typical of the region, is perfect for the vines which are planted on gentle slopes on soil composed on clay, sand and flint, giving the Chateau’s wines their special character. Our winemaking marries modern techniques with time-honoured traditions.
Controlled, measured volumes; grass grown between the rows of vines (hosting the natural predators of insects attracted to the grapes); and channels for draining away rainwater all reflect a respect for nature and quality. The grapes are harvested manually, carried to the low-temperature storehouse on wooden trays, sorted on tables, and then gently passed through a pneumatic press. In other words, a totally natural method of wine making, with no addition of yeast or other additives; a slow process of fermentation in low temperatures; maturing in oak barrels for micro-oxidation; without filtration.
Certified organic and biodynamic by Ecocert since May 2002, Demeter since 2007, Biodyvin since 2012 and a Member of Renaissance des Appellations.
4 hectares of chenin blanc, 1 hectare of grolleau, 0,5 hectare of côt and 0,5 hectare of cabernet franc.

Cuvée Colette is the best expression of the Chenin blanc for the 2014 vintage and was a fantastic vintage in the Loire and it shows in the bottle.
